GARDEN WALKABOUT
A morning or afternoon spent with you in your garden, it’s a simple, short and encouraging opportunity to get the best out of your garden whether it be concerning planting designs, structure or even pruning.
LANDSCAPE DESIGN – THE PROCESS
Consultancy
A discussion held with you, in your garden. This will give us an idea of what can be achieved, the style that would best suit you and the space available.
Site Survey
Once the project has the green light, we will carry out a detailed site survey. This is an essential part of the process, allowing the house, boundaries and existing features that might effect the design to be located. If the site is large or complex in levels, a professional surveyor will be commissioned.
Concept
Emma will take you through a design proposal, showing you sketches and photographs of materials intended to be used. We will use this as a basis upon which changes can easily be made. Only when you are completely happy we will move on to produce a master layout plan.
Master Plan
This is the final layout plan that Emma will give you and will
include all the amendments made previously. The drawing will be to scale and sets out all the structural features in the garden. This will enable the landscape contractor to cost, source materials and begin construction of the garden.
Construction Details and Specifications
These are sometimes required in addition to the layout plan. These give detail on specific garden structures (eg pergolas and steps,) indicating exact materials, dimensions, levels and other information required by the contractor.
Planting Design
This is what brings the garden to life. Together we will choose plants according to the overall garden design and their ability to work well within their environment. Planting plans accurately show where each plant is to be located and the number of plants required.
Construction and Contract Management
The building will be carried out by a landscape contractor. A number of suitable firms will be invited to tender for the opportunity to build your garden. Water or lighting specialists may need to be brought in. Emma will make sure the contractor fully understands the design and any amendments will be agreed with all parties. This is to ensure costs are kept within budget and that the garden is built to exceed your expectations.
Planting
All plants will be sourced and planted by Emma and her team, but clients who want to get their hands dirty are welcome to join in!
PLANTING DESIGN
It might be that you are happy with your existing garden but your plants need some careful maintenance (Mahonias are not always supposed to be
giants...) We can provide you with a planting plan detailing where each plant should be placed and the number of plants that are needed. We can also plant up the garden and ensure existing plants are given appropriate care.
Planting designs make the ideal gift. By providing us with the measurements, aspect and soil type we can create a beautiful design guide together with step by step instructions.
